Introducing the Rewire.

Hi there! A few of you have been asking what I’ve been up to recently. I’d like to invite you to join me as I start something new — a new publication and community I’m calling The Rewire.

Humanity has come far, but has left its mark.

Those who know me, know I am an optimist. However, rapid innovation has left us with severe and unintended consequences. The summer of 2023 is not only the hottest on record it is by far the hottest (more than four standard deviations from the average just thirty years ago 🤯)We owe the planet a huge debt. How do we incentivize companies and governments to pay it back?

THE TAKEAWAY

  • Humans needs a stable planet to have a good future. Humanity has benefited from a stable planet since we developed into a modern civilization 10,000 years ago. This is a free subsidy that modern economics does not account for today.

  • Planetary Boundaries is the study of finding the scientific guardrails which can allow humans to maintain global environmental stability.

  • Tipping Points are thresholds that, once crossed, risk a chain-reaction in which Earth’s natural processes will rapidly break-down and no longer grant us the free subsidy of a stable environment.

  • A Sustainable Global Economy promotes human prosperity while incentivizing humans to operate within the physical limits of a stable planet.

The Economy can solve this.

Luckily, we aren’t alone. A new generation of leaders in economics, science, and technology is working on this question. The Rewire will be a place to ask —
what will it take to rewire our global economy to a sustainable one?x
